The 35th Anniversary Hess Truck featured the Space Shuttle with a satellite being carried on a flatbed tractor-trailer. By far the most complex Hess toy at that time, it is reported that it was 6 years in development and designed to usher in the 21st Century. Hess manufactured 1,600,000 of these toys. The shuttle bay doors open with the push of a button and feature an automatic satellite launching arm. Both the shuttle and the satellite have working lights and sounds and the satellite has retractable solar panels. Upper shuttle bay doors open with the push of a button located on top of the cockpit. The flatbed tractor-trailer rig has working headlights, taillights, and running lights. This toy was an instant classic for Hess collectors.
